Weekly feature: Excerpt from original script

From The Freshman. Buffy season 4.

After Buffy falls through the roof into Sunday's lair. Part in bold got cut. Source.

Buffy is slammed to the ground. She sees in front of her:

ANGLE: BUFFY'S WEAPONS TRUNK. Under some of her other stuff. She crawls towards it.

Sunday steps between her and it and picks up something else: Buffy's Class Protector umbrella.

SUNDAY

of geek."

Weekly feature: What to buy?

In case I get money as a Christmas present this Vampy Cat necklace (hopefully the seller will make more) and this Vampy Cat toy are high on my need-to-buy list.

I'll probably spend it on comics though. Darn comic-addiction.

Unreleased merchandise

There's plenty of Buffy/Angel merchandise that was never released. See some figs here, some here. And some here (not sure which ones, the one which names are blank and don't link anywhere I think). The snow globe seen here. The Du lac cross, The Gentlemen's box, the urn of Osiris, Buffy plush stake and Darkest magicks book here. The tarot cards seen here. So much we never got to see.

Also, who left their scented

WILLOW
Well, this is good,
this is all fun...
a bake sale, some baked

also other stuff... that
we might show interest in...
as a wicca group...

NICOLE
Like what?

WILLOW
Well, there's the wacky notion of spells...

CHERYL
Well you missed last week,
we did a healing chant for
Chloe's ankle, she said the

NICOLE
What is she doing

CHERYL
She was trying to impress Justin.

Weekly feature: What to buy?

Sideshow's new Willow statue is avaliable for pre-order. There's a regular version and a exclusive (the exclusive having a few extra accessoaries). She's the second statue in sideshow's new Buffy line, Buffy has been released so far (regular and exclusive, but notice that the dress is actually dark red in real life, she has been re-painted since the promo shots), and Faith is planned.

I go from "loving it!" to "meh" and back all the time. Love the paint job (no bright yellow hair here, like on the Buffy statue), I think I would love the clothes in case Willow had pants/stockings under the mini skirt and didn't show her belly, I want the werewolf to look more like in the concept art(I think I recall it being more cute), love the skull/rat/candle and base.

Her leg looks posed, not as if she turned back in the middle of a step, which reminds me of a show horse's funny/weird "look at me walking pretty!"-walk. In case she had been smiling I could have bought that she was looking back at Oz, thus the leg going up, as if she's a movie, being kissed (you know how female characters sometimes lift up their leg when kissing?). So her pose isn't actually that slutty, just awkward. It's the bare legs that make the pose seem slutty.

I like the over all feeling, she's relaxed, she's cute, it's a ordinary day in school and she just saw something that made her look back (maybe Buffy called out her name?). Then I hear the voices in my head saying "Willow would not look that comfortable showing midriff and having a mini skirt without pants. And why does she look like she's posing AND walking?".

She so close to being brilliant it's actually makes me sad. I can't believe someone being too hot and relaxed about it makes me not have happy feelings. :(

I think I'll just pick this up if I a) get a great job (as in decent sized paycheck), or b)find it cheap on ebay.

Not official

Regarding yesterday's post: There's been an update.

"But, unfortunately it's not official. I received an email from Scott @ Dark Horse, letting me know that this art is no longer in consideration for Season 9."

I think I'm glad. The likeness was great, but I'm used too more cartoony art now.

Artist for season 9? *POTENTIAL MINOR SPOILERS*

Could this be some of what we'll get to see in season 9 of Buffy? New interior artist and all?

Update: The article now says:

NSFW: Statues.

So I was just showed these statues. I'm warning you, it's not exactly safe for work.

Buffy and River.

I think I've seen this company use the Sideshow Buffy premium format sculpt to make their own modified Buffy. I think sideshow might have told them to take it down (since it's illegal to use copyrighted figures and re-sculpt and massproduce, but not to use certain parts from figures to make new statues). I have to say, they did better with that statue. It had huge boobs, but the head (which they just seemed to have painted over if I recall, not modified) seemed less out of place on the body.

Should Spike have been staked in season 4?

Should the scoobies have staked him in season 4, after he got chipped? I see some people saying he's harmless, he's fun, he's sexy, it was good he wasn't staked, but I find it so out of character for the characters not to stake him. He was evil for christ sake!

As soon as it turned out he knew nothing useful about The Initiative, they should have killed him.

Buffy should have because she's perfectly fine with staking evil massmurderers.

Anya should have, to protect Xander. It seems weird that she didn't.

Xander should have, but both he and Willow can be excused, they were still young and innocent(okay, Willow is just stupid for caring for Spike, after he threatened to rape her in Lover's walk and tried to turn her in season 4). Same with Tara.

Giles is a killer and he kills when he has to. The younger members of the Scoobie gang could be excused, but he's seen too much death to not take Spike seriously.

They let themselves believe he was safe, even tough he mentioned nothing about redemption(not until he feel in love with Buffy anyway), and the chip could stop working any time (or he could kill innocent demons or hold the scoobies while another demon killed them for him). And after him banding together with Adam, they all knew damn well what damage he could do.

I think it's extremely out of character for the entire gang to ignore the danger. So I blame the writers. They wanted to keep Spike around, so they had the scoobies accept him way too easily. Not until Intervention, when he stands up against Glory, do I understand why they let him live. Scratch that; I understand why they're unwilling to kill someone who can't defend himself. But that's not enough reason to not kill a massmurderer who wants nothing more than being able to kill again, and who was likely to try get unchipped so he could do just that.

Don't get me wrong, I love his development as a character, I'm a huge Spike fan, but everytime I watch a scene reminding me that they let him live before that, I grind my teeth.

Motion comic poster contest.

Lookie

Only for US residents though. Design a poster for the motion comic, get 500 dollars the Blu-ray & DVD combo and a signed copy of their poster. Four runners-up will also receive the Blu-ray & DVD combo.

I'm fussy on the rules, in case people are allowed to use their own art, use textures other people have made (after asking for permission of course) or other comic images than the ones they provide (in a file at the top of the page).

New essay book available for order. Sexual Rhetoric in the Works of Joss Whedon.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer has become an enduring feature modern pop culture, spawning television spin-offs, rabid fans, and significant scholarly inquiry.

Though there have been numerous books devoted to the work of Joss Whedon, this collection of fifteen essays is the first to focus specifically on the sexual rhetoric found in his oeuvre, which includes Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Dollhouse, and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, as well as Buffy. Together these essays constitute a much-needed addition to the expanding body of Whedon gender scholarship.

Weekly feature: Excerpt from original script

Two excerpts this week, since I didn't give you one last week.

From Dear boy (Ats, S2).

In the script, Lindsey compliments Darla on her ability to manipulate Angel with this exchange, some of which were cut from the final episode due to length.

LINDSEY: We're counting on that. You've given us more information on Angel than we had when he first got here. Nobody knows him like you do, especially the side we're interested in.
DARLA: Which is -?
LINDSEY: The particular set of hairs you have the buy by. Angel may be a vampire, but he's still a man.

Transcript for the episode here, in case you want to compare to the aired version.

From Darla (Ats, S2)

When Wesley finds Angel drawing multiple sketches of Darla, in the original script he spotted a nude drawing and this exchange ensued - cut - for length or good taste:

ANGEL: I've been... thinking. That's all.
WESLEY: Thinking?
ANGEL: Yes. It helps me sometimes to think with my hands.
WESLEY: And occasionally... just the one hand?

Transcript for the episode here, in case you want to compare to the aired version.

The book Buffy in the Classroom: Essay's on Teaching with the Vampire Slayer is now available.

This book combines the academic and practical aspects of teaching by exploring the ways in whichBuffy the Vampire Slayer is taught, internationally, through both interdisciplinary and discipline-based approaches. Essays describe how Buffy can be used to explain--and encourage further discussion of--television's narrative complexity, archetypal characters, morality, feminism, identity, ethics, non-verbal communication, film production, media and culture, censorship, and Shakespeare, among other topics.

Seems like it's filled with lots of different topics, so it shouldn't be hard to find something I/you guys might like.

Could this be it?

Tales of the vampires and tales of the slayer will be released in a hardcover, possibly with a new Jo Chen cover. See here for more info. According to another fan the editor of Season 8, Scott Allie, implied in a Q&A that there might be a new cover, which means it won't be the cover shown on Darkhorse's site, which was for The Thrill.

A fellow fan found this darkhorse wallpaper, with art I've never seen before, and it's says "tales" on it. Could it be the cover? It sure looks like Jo Chen's art.

-EDIT

It's says 2006 at the bottom left. Frak. Might not be the cover at all. Still curious were it's from.

From Judgement, this scene to be specific.

"In the original script, but cut from the episode, is this exchange when Wesley tells Angel and Cordelia about Caritas and Merl.

CORDELIA: 'You're a prostitute? It's always the quiet Bristish ones...'"

Weekly feature: What NOT to buy.

The re-packaging of Buffy season 1-7 looks ... well, it's not worth the money amazon is now taking for it.

The amazon page. The picture.

Mommy, I know what I don't want for Christmas.

Sure it's pretty, but is it going to fit nicely on the shelf with the rest of your DVD collection? Don't think so. Is it a nice piece of art to display? Yes. Is it worth 180 bucks? No. It's not even worth the 70 bucks amazon had it for sale recently. Why not just pay 30-ish bucks extra on a Chosen collection on ebay? Extra bonus disc, booklet, and letter from Joss comes with. Abd although I don't have the proportions on neither, my eyes tell me the Chosen collection won't stick out like a sore thumb on your DVD shelf. I guess one could display the re-packaging on a shelf in some manner, but still, not worth the money.

The re-package of the Angel series is currently only a 100 bucks on amazon. But I don't think it would be that hard to get The Collector's Set a lot cheaper anyway, on ebay or amazon-registrered seller. Of course, I'll only be getting the region 2 DVDs on Angel, because of this reason.

Sunday, October 24, 2010

Weekly feature: Excerpt from original script

From The Shroud of Rahmon(Ats S2) No clue where it's suppose to be from, The Casefiles vol 1 weren't that specific.

"Also cut was this exchange in which, after the premiere. Cordelia ducks behing the counter to change out of her stained clothes, and Angel claims to have done some research on museum acquisitions:

ANGEL: 'Well, I did a little... I clicked the little... I turned on the computer.'
CORDELIA AND WESLEY: 'You did?'
ANGEL: 'I know how to turn it on.'
CORDELIA: 'No, no - that's good. That's really - I can't talk to you with no pants on.'
ANGEL: 'You have no pants on?'
CORDELIA: 'See, now that you know ... it's weird, huh?'

Not sure why they think he can't use the computer. Angel seemed quite apt at finding info online in the first episode of Ats, when he looks after info to save Tina. Maybe he just haven't showed them.

From Are You Know, Or Have You Ever Been(Ats S2, second ep), a cut scene when Cordy and Wes do research about the Hyperion.

"In a scene that didn't air, Wesley and Cordelia, tracing the history of the hotel, have come across news clippings about a murderer who killed there in 1935.
CORDELIA: 'So what horrible thing do you suppose he did?'

WESLEY: 'Other than using the heads of his victims as decorative planters?'

CORDELIA: 'What? No, not psycho slasher 1935. Angel. I mean, he woulda had a soul back then, right? So he probably wasn't eating people. So what's with the big guilt? He forgot to tip the doorman?'
WESLEY: 'You must keep in mind that this was during a period in Angel's life when he wasn't Angel. At least not the Angel we know.'

CORDELIA: 'You mean before Buffy. Before all his trying to atone.'
WESLEY: 'Precisely.'
CORDELIA: 'So what kind of plants you gonna keep in a human head?'

WESLEY: 'Well, ferns, one assumes.'"

Weekly feature: What to buy?

The Chosen Collection is being sold for 64% off at amazon today. Question is, which collection is it? This listing used to be for the white/red Chosen collection, with Joss' letter, booklet and extra disc, but now it shows images of two different packages. This new red packaging doesn't have the extras, just season 1-7, no bonus disc, letter or booklet. Most of the reviews are about the old box and it's features, but the details now implie that it's not the old box (it sayd 39 discs, which means no bonus disc, I think).

So if you don't care which collection you get, go ahead and order. It's still a good deal. Bad of amazon to sell two different collections under the same listing. I hope no one gets tricked.

Oh. My. God.

Every once in a while, during my ebay shopping trips for Buffy collectibles, I find the occasional item that's overpriced. A Georges Jeanty Buffy sketchbook for 40 bucks(including shipping) when I can get one for 28 bucks (including shipping) from Jeanty's own site, a Eaglemoss Buffy figurine worth 20 bucks on buy it now for 99, but this might be the most overpriced collectible I've ever seen:

LINK

Usually, random comic lots like that go for a few dollars, but this

"This unique listing is for once in a life time offer!!!"

is just... a tad bit more. It would be A LOT cheaper to just buy the tradepaperbacks and omnibuses that collects those issues.

Weekly feature: Excerpt from original script

From Five by Five. Supposedly this scene.

Cut from the final episode, for length. Angel initially resists Wesley's idea to help Faith:
ANGEL: 'I seem to remember trying with Faith once... I had her in a safe place, on the verge of facing herself and what she'd done. Then her Watcher knocked me unconcious with a tire iron, took her away, and let her escape. Which gave her the opportunity to put a poison arrow in my back. (stares at Wesley for a moment)
'Then I nearly killed Buffy. Not that one should learn from mistakes.'"

What a bitch. Unless Angel actually changed his mind before the last sentence, meaning that this time Wesley would do it right. I get the anger, but still, bitchy.

Either way, the aired version was more to the point:
"WESLEY: That's not good enough! She's not a demon, Angel! She's a sick, sick girl. If there's even a chance she can be reasoned with--

ANGEL: There was. Last year, I had a shot at saving her. I was pulling her back from the brink when some British guy kidnapped her and made damn sure she'd never trust another living soul."

And a extra original script fact from the same episode:Link
"In the original script, the gangbanger Angel saves is named Martinez. For broadcast, his name was changed to Marquez."

The House Rules

Christian Kane (Lindsey) has finally made a video to his great song "The House Rules".

I like that he made a video to this song, but it's not what I imagined it would be like. I would have a liked more of a country bar set, with cowgirls and cowboys, maybe some bikers getting assgrabbed by girls, and Kane in a cowboyhat, sitting on a chair and singing.

Still cool tough, check it out.

Funny catch.

I found this a bit funny when watching Witch (BtVS, S1).

"WILLOW: You're not invisible to Buffy.

XANDER: It's worse! I'm just like a part of the scenery, like an old shoe. Or a rug that you walk on every day but don't even really see it.

WILLOW: Like a pen that's all chewed up, and you know you should throw it away, but you don't, not 'cause you like it so much, more 'cause you're just used to...

XANDER: Will, yeah, that is the point, you don't have to drive it through my head like a railroad spike. I'm gonna take your advice and not beat around the bush."

Remind you of Spike got his name according to Giles' book in School Hard (BtVS, S2)?

"GILES: Our new friend Spike. He's known as 'William the Bloody'. Earned his nickname by torturing his victims with railroad spikes. Very pleasant."

Probably means nothing, no foreshadowing or anything, but it made me giggle.

More unreleased covers *spoilers*

I found - on the same site as for the cover below - two uncolored unreleased covers for issue 2 & 3 of the Illyria mini series Haunted (I think the cover for issue 2 have been seen on Buffyfest's blog).

Issue 2
Pencils
Graphite & white pencil over printout

Issue 3
Pencils
Graphite & white pencil over printout

Unreleased cover *spoilers*

I don't think the finished cover for issue 41 of the on-going Angel series has been showed yet, but I found the original art by Jenny Frison on Cadence Comic Art, a site that sells original art from different comics books artists (I would link, but some people I gave the link to said their security programmes warned about viruses).

So here it is:

Pencils

Graphite & white pencil over outprint

Wesley love Angel

That's what these two posters spell out anyway.

I have no idea if they're from the same magazine or not (I think so since the seller is selling another couple of posters with Angel&Buffy and Angel&Cordy that look like they're a pair since Buffy's shoulder is a part of the Angel&Cordy poster) I just now that I have to buy them (they're on a Swedish auction site) and display them next to each other.

I wonder if the artist realized that's what they said, or if it's accidental. I like to think he/she is a slash-shipper. :D

-EDIT

Here's the posters (when the auctions finishes they will eventually disapear).

Weekly feature: Excerpt from original script

From Sleeper, when Buffy thinks Spike might be killing again and asks the gang to help her investigate.

"In the original teleplay it takes Anya a little longer to come up with an excuse for being in Spike's room:
'I... am here, obviously, because of the reason which I am about to tell you, with the following words, and that reason is... uh, clearly and obviously too, um... sex.'"

Aired version here.

Weekly feature: What to buy?

Halloween is my second favorite holiday (Christmas is hard to beat), and if I had money, I would go full out and buy yellow contacts, fangs and buy a vamp mask, to look like a real Buffyverse-vamp with the help of this, or this. (I've seen a couple of better pieces by reel magic on ebay, but I'm not sure they're up now).

Sadly, I think I might just be able to afford the contacts. Too much money to spend for one night, considering that I don't have a job, just student loan.

Maybe I should just do what Oz did in the episode Fear Itself, and go as God.

PS. If you're more of a wannabe fangbanger than fang-wanna be, check this out.

What did Buffy say? NSFW

Remember the space sex in the last Season 8 arc? Hard to forget if you've read it. Hell, even non season 8 readers know about it.

Anyway, the empty talk bubble in space made the people Comics Alliance think; What was Buffy saying? They came up with a some fun alternatives.

The article

Have you read it now? Can come up with something better? Please post it below.

I think it would be awesome if she yelled out "Xaaaaandeeeer!" Would make sense too. Or "Spiiiiikeeee!"

There was a few fun ideas in the comments section to that article. Here's one:
"Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me!"(from Firefly's theme song).

Whedonesque members had some fun ideas too, among them:
"Angel! Are you asleep?" and
"Oh Angel, you've got such big... hair"

Weekly feature: Excerpt from original script

From Older And Far Away, when Dawn's wish causes everyone to be trapped in Buffy's house.

This scene with Anya & Buffy was a bit different in the original script:

ANYA: That's your friend from work?
BUFFY. Well... yeah. (beat) All the good ones got picked off by that lady with the wig. Lay off.'
ANYA: Hmm. Our friend is better.

It's finally here! Georges Jeanty's 4th Buffy sketch book! Okay, maybe you're not as excited as I am, but I love them.

For 20 USD + shipping you get a autographed sketch book with a original head sketch on the cover (your choice) with 32 pages and B&W interior (probably one too many spelling errors, the previous books had them).

Here you can order the book, and here's a example of the kind of head sketch Jeanty draws.

Champion vs Hero

The terms "Hero" and "Champion" are used a lot on Buffy and Angel, and I've been a part of several "Are Angel a hero or not" arguments which can get confusing, so I think this definition of the terms written by Emmie (from slayalive.com) is handy:

"All heroes are champions, but not all champions are heroes.

A champion is a warrior who fights for the cause of others, be the cause good or ill. A hero is a warrior for good.

The terminology is a deliberate choice. As Giles puts it "Buffy is a hero, you see?" while Angel is a champion. Angel is the vampire with a soul who could go either way in the apocalypse. No one knows what side he'll land on, they only know he's pivotal. That's why he's not labeled simply a hero."

Source

It's still up for debate what is a good cause and what is not. I bet Angel would generally define himself a hero as well as a champion, and as much as I loathe some of his less un-heroic choices he didn't seem to feel bad enough about (I mainly thinking of him killing the demon slave in Not Fade Away), I would have to agree with him. Just as I would agree that any demon was a champion if he was working for someone else as a warrior.

Weekly feature: Excerpt from original script

From Seeing Red, the yuckiest bluarg-episode ever.

These lines were cut from the beginning of this scene, when Buffy finds Xander in his messy apartment.

"XANDER: (re:beer) Think there's still a cold one in the fridge. Haven't gotten around to busting the major appliances yet.
BUFFY: Thanks. Still a little early for me.
XANDER: The tyranny of the clock must be overthrown.
BUFFY: So how many coup d'etats is that?
XANDER: General Cirrhosis has seized control of the Liver parliment.
He smiles weakly, sips his beer. His pain is obvious, despite his jocularity."

The Move

More news on The Move. A interview with IDW on how the move is going to work, and their feelings about it. They're nice, funny and diplomatic. I can't imagine they're that happy on the inside tough.

Keep watching the buffyfest blog that I just linked to, they're likely to follow the story and update with articles and interviews (just beware of spoilers, they're not always that careful with marking them).

Buffy movie cover influenced by Twilight?

Bob Canada seems to think the new cover(no idea how new) for the Buffy movie is influenced by Twilight. In a bad way.

Not that I agree completely with the blogger, but he has a point. Maybe the old cover was more fitting. But I also think the new cover goes hand in hand with the new dark/cool/intense trend for supernatural movie covers, which I don't really blame Twilight for. I for one aren't that into old-looking movies. Looking at it like that, it's good promotion.

The move: Bad idea? [spoilers?]

I had a change of heart regarding Angel's move to Darkhorse after reading this interview: Buffyfest (it could be spoilery)

Now I'm more scared than excited.

I'm so cranky now, after thinking this through. But not because of Angel, because of Spike. I was looking forward to years and years of the Spike ongoing, and now it's turned into a mini series, and that might be it.

"The main thing is that IDW has to wrap up their stories"

That line bothers me. They have to wrap up their stories. Considering what people have been telling me about the main series (still haven't gotten the chance to read past issue 27), saying they have to wrap up their stories would be like having to wrap up BtVS season 6 before it's time, even tough it might, like season 6, has to be told completely to be appreciated. Maybe if IDW had been given a chance, they could have made the ongoing great, and this is just a rough patch.

I really hate that it seems like Darkhorse "stole" the story from IDW. I was much happier believing IDW choose it.

"Yes, but believe me, it sucks to have too many characters in a single book"

They should have thought about that before buying the license. I'm really starting to think that I jumped to conclusions when I thought "Hey, this must mean they're going to release lots of stories, and have many people working on this".

I wonder if the "I saw some posts on Slayalive, and I know everyone wants an absolutely mathematical answer" line could have something to do with my "I want to know what exactly is canon and what is not" rant on there, lol. Glad to know I don't have to put all of my thoughts in a fanmail for a chance of Allie reading them.

And oh, I would really have liked to listen in to the "refreshing" phone call between Ryall and Allie. Drama, drama, drama.

-EDIT

I forgot to mention, that I heard there were some talk about how the license for Angel ends in 2011 (thus my line about the comics being stolen), and that's how Darkhorse got the license. Sneaky, sneaky, but so far, only rumours.

-EDIT AGAIN

"The main thing is that IDW has to wrap up their stories" I might have jumped to conclusions about that line. Might just mean that he's aware of the problem, not that he'll think that's what's going to happen. I'm still worried tough.

The joining of the verses.

According to statements from both IDW and Darkhorse, the Angel books will return to Darkhorse, while seemingly making many IDW comics canon, by coordinating the Angel series and Season 8's storylines.

Read Darkhorse's statement, and IDW's statement.

I am so happy. It seems like this will canonize a huge part of the IDW books, and once again join the two verses.

I hope we will find out exactly which comics are canon and which are not. This might seem silly to some people, but I really care about which stories are real, and can be "added" to the history of the character. Because I really want to know these characters, what they've been through, what they feel, and why.

I'm so happy that it seems like the verse have grown in just one day, making what some people can "glorified fanfiction" into the real deal. I hope I'm not getting too excited too fast, since canon hasn't even been mentioned, just that the storlines will be coordinated, but it sounds like it will canonize them, doesn't it?

I can't wait for Season 9. Season 8 hasn't turned out the way I hoped it would (The Twilight arc makes me sick) but now I'm really excited for whatever will happen in the next run. And I don't even like Angel as a character!

I wonder if Willow will meet Illyria and find out about Fred, and maybe about Giles not wanting to help Angel in Shells. Oh, the potential drama. And it will be nice to see if Xander have learned to behave around Angel now, and not to give Buffy shit over having dated him. It's not like Xander hasn't dated a redeemed demon himself.

Queen of the Slayers & Season 8 [Spoilers]

angelsclone over at slayalive.com brings up a few interesting comparisons between Season 8 and the non-canon Buffy novel Queen of the Slayers.

If you haven't seen the spoilery Jo Chen cover for issue 38 (if you want to see it, go here) and don't wish to be spoiled, don't continue reading:

"Has anybody read the novel "Queen of the Slayers" by Nancy Holder? There are a few tidbids within the novel that seem to have popped up in Season Eight that i thought i'd share and hear your thoughts..

1. The title itself has been used in "No Future For You", whom rogue slayer Genevieve used to describe Buffy.

2. Robin Wood takes a group of Slayers to the Hellmouth in Cleveland, this is Robin's current location in Season Eight.

3. They go to Tibet, and re-meet Oz. Tibet? Oz? sounds like "Retreat"?

4. Willow goes into a coma, but is somehow woken up by a kiss from her lover, Kennedy. Sounds a little like Satsu waking up Buffy from a coma with a kiss ay?

[[!SPOILERS!]]
5. Dawn goes into a coma, as she was The Key, and has a link to the Earth, which is crumbling because of the ensuing evil. Now after the cover reveal of #38 this got me thinking, could Dawn be in a coma in the cover as a result of whats happening in "Twilight/Last Gleaming"?

5. Buffy is then joined by both Angel and Spike's souls, and together they create an angelic daughter with all of their features. Now i know everyone hates the idea of Buffy being pregnant but this could be "The Seed"."

Source

Very interesting comparisons, don't you think? Could simply just be coincidences. Kennedy has after all already used a kiss Willow to cure Willow in Season 7 (The Killer In Me), and Oz being in Tibet is nothing new (read this scene), so both the book and series using that isn't weird. Together with the rest it gets spooky tough.

I think the theory on why Dawn is sick/dead/hurt on the cover could be correct. Her dying because of Buffy would cause some mayor grief on Buffy's part, and maybe that could make for interesting stories for Season 9 (but we did see Buffy deal with this sort of guilt before, when she sent Angel to Hell, so maybe it wouldn't be that interesting).

Fake preview art guy

Remember the fake issue 35 (of Season 8) preview I mentioned a while back, and that caused lots of talk around the Buffy online community? Click here to see it again (unless you haven't read issue 33).

It's very well made, but the common conlusion seemed to have been that it was a fake, since it looks traced, and nothing like what George Jeanty usually draws. It was later confirmed that whoever that said that was a real preview had been lying.

Turns out the guy who's art I showed here is the one who made it, and in his art thread at slayalive he has posted more art, some very very beautiful (if you're Spuffy fan, you have to see this George Jeanty styled piece).

Not sure if he meant to trick everyone with the fake preview (btw, here's another quite poignant one), he hasn't replied to my question about that yet, but you can't deny that the guy should have been hired by a comic book company yesterday, because he's so damn good.

Weekly feature: What to buy?

This month the parody movie Vampires Suck is in theaters. I'll definitly watch it, but I might wait for the DVD.

The directors/writers, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, have also done Scary Movie 1-4, Disaster Movie, Date Movie (starring Alyson Hannigan), Meet the Spartans and Epic Movie. I love the Scary Movies (the 5th one is in production according to imdb.com) and also like some of the others, so this will be a treat. It seems to mainly be mocking Twilight, but Buffy's on the poster as well, so she'll be in it. I love Buffy and like Twilight, but I cried from laughter when watching the trailer.

Weekly feature: What to buy?

The Season 8 motion comic is available on itunes and amazon now. Íf I remember correctly, one "issue" per week will be released. 19 issue are planned, adaptations of the 19 first issues of Season 8.

The DVD will be out January 4, 2011. Question is; Should I buy it? I'm facing a few reasons to buy, and quite a few not to buy.

Why should I buy it?

*It's Buffy. I feel like I should love it.

*It's sort of a collectible (I consider all merchandise a collectible).
*It supports the franchise.
*It might be entertaining.

Why should I not buy it?

*I've seen two clips(One from the The Long Way Home part 1 and one from Wolves at the Gate) and one trailer. The WatG clip as been taken of the internet, supposedly because a lot of people at whedonesque.com hated it. Because it's not good. The voice actors are crappy. I can do better, at least the Willow voice. I wonder if the actors and creators have seen Buffy and studied the characters at all. In that Wolves at the Gate clips, Buffy sounds like Cordelia. Which will be messed up if they air issue 20, which has both Cordelia and Buffy in it.
*People who have watched the first issue says they cut out lines.
*Joss Whedon or anyone who created the comic is not involved at all, might not even have been asked to be. This is a interpretation of the story Joss wanted to tell. How the lines are said, how he imagined the characters moving, it might all be off.
*It's not canon. It's a interpretation and summarization of canon, for the two reasons mention above.
*The comic book writers and artists are (supposedly) not getting payed for their work being used for the motion comic.

And the biggest con of all: The comic series is not done yet. How can the creaters of this motion comic know if they're cutting out something important to the story, or interpret it the wrong way? What if they cut out the panel or line that solves the entire Twilight-mystery? Will they have to create their own ending?

So what do you think? That's a whole lot of cons. Over at whedonesque.com, many don't want to pay if the writers and artists aren't getting payed, but I care more about that this is basically fanfic pretending to be canon, by people who aren't fans. I don't like paying for fanfic. It's one thing buying the fiction books or the non-canon comics, but they're usually a lot better than this.
Of course, I won't know how crappy the motion comic is until I buy it. Which means that I'll have to. Just like I'll have to watch the original Buffy movie one day, even tough Joss has been said to really dislike how it turned out.

Hint of gayness in Season 2?

I'm watching Reptile Boy right now, and I noticed what might be the first hint of Willow's gay/biness:

WILLOW: You're going to the fraternity party? What made you change your mind?
BUFFY: Angel.
WILLOW[a little jealous]: He's going with you? [To Xander] She's got a date with Angel, isn't that exciting?
XANDER: I'm elated.
BUFFY: I-I'm not going with Angel. I'm going with ... yea gods... Cordelia!
BUFFY:
WILLOW: Cordelia? Did I sound a little jealous just then, because I'm not really-... Cordelia?

The direction "a little jealous" was from the original script, so Willow was definitly suppose to sound jealous, it's not just what the character suspected.

I wonder if there's more hints to Willow liking girls before she meet Tara, other than vampire Willow's behaviour.

A little comic book rant

I just read the 4 first issues in the original Buffy series(the one with over 60 issues). I've found lots of time inconsistencies. It seems to be season 3 post Band candy, yet pre-Suprise, still post Surprise, for several reasons, to just mentioned a few times markers that make no sense when combined (for example, Oz is there, knowing about monsters, which sets the comic post-Innocence, yet both souled Angel and Spike & Dru are around, which makes it pre-What's my line?)

How could this comic be published? The writer(s) and the editor(s) couldn't have watched the show that closely. Here I thought Joss read and approved every comic. Was that wrong, or did he just read summarizations?

It will be interesting to see how Darkhorse have placed them in the Buffy omnibuses, which are suppose to be chronological. I was thinking about making a list of continuity errors for the series, time wise and plot wise, but it's 60-ish issues, and I can't be bothered. I do love to whine, but that's taking it too far.

EDIT- 5th August 2010

Seems like I put my foot in my mouth. But just a little. I've read up until issue 11 now, and I overreacted about the Dru/Spike thing, since Buffy could have been worried about them returning in Season 3 as well. Also, another character mentioned that they left town. So this series seems to follow the Season 3 story, definitly set after Beauty and the Beasts, since Angel is back. But I found a big inconsistency.

Buffy & Angel are dating, comfortably it seems. So is Cordelia & Xander. How does that work? Angel & Buffy didn't get couply until way after Lover's Walk(they were "just friends" as they told Spike), but that's when Xander & Cordelia broke up, due to the cheating.

I could probably go back, read the issues again to try to make sense of it, and re-evaluate the other inconsistencies I found with this non-Spike&Dru error in mind, but I'm too lazy.
